Niika Quistgard makes a phenomenal guide to the world of Ayurveda, truly enjoying sharing her knowledge of Ayurveda and the people, plants, traditional medicine, cuisine, spirituality and daily life in the land of balance.
A clinical Ayurvedic specialist with 10 years experience practicing, teaching and writing about Ayurveda for western women, Niika lives part time on the outskirts of the small, traditional city of Trivandrum, Kerala.
Niika is committed to supporting women’s wellbeing, ecology and the ongoing integration of Kerala's indigenous system of healing, longevity and happiness—Ayurveda
—into daily living. While teaching western women the power of applied Ayurveda, she also encourages Malayalee women to preserve the practice of their ancient ways. "Progress" and the influence of media and corporate multi-nationals is seeping into South India, with the power to lure women into forgetting the joy of brewing effective remedies from the Ayurvedic herbs growing in their back yard, or stone-grinding a flavorful masala to make a tasty, fresh and balanced meal.
Niika is a regular contributor to Yoga Journal Magazine, and has been interviewed on Ayurvedic topics for Natural Health Magazine, Yoga Journal Magazine, and on radio and television.
With a great affection for the local culture, Niika is learning to speak a little Malayalam (the language of Kerala). She has been earnestly adopted by a Malayalee family, who expand her heart beyond measure and enrich her life in countless ways. While visiting Trivandrum, you'll surely meet members of Niika's Indian family, as well as some of her local friends who will be eager to converse with you and introduce you to the authentic treasures Kerala has to offer.
